Quadrant's Inspiration

Annotation 2019-09-10 180014.png

John Joseph Macauley is the inspiration, drive and integrity for Quadrant and his spirit lives on through those that honor and remember him.

John was born in San Francisco on February 12, 1928, where he grew up and attended Polytechnic High School (Class of 1945).  After graduation, he joined the US Army where he served honorably in Korea.  Upon discharge, he returned home to attend the University of California at Berkeley (BS, 1951).  Upon graduation and for the next 39 years, John was a CPA/tax partner with Coopers & Lybrand, where his service culminated in election to its US Firm Council and leadership of its western US tax practice.

John believed that a worthy life demanded service to others.  So he served as a Board Member/Trustee of many leading institutions during his working years and well into retirement.  These included the Boys & Girls Club of SF, the Rotary Foundation of SF, Golden Gate University, The Fremont Bank, The Surbeck Foundation and others.  John was also a longtime member of the NRA, the Navy League, the Cal Alumni Association, the SF Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), the Cal Alumni Club of the Peninsula, the MacLeod Society, the St. Andrews Society and the California Society of CPAs.

John loved the outdoors, politics, things that go ‘bang’ and being with his family whenever possible.  When asked what we should do now, he would have told us to stick together, set a direction and get about it without delay. We will do our best to make him proud, and look forward to his welcome when we have also finished our work.

“Do it right, the best you can and do it with integrity.  Integrity lasts forever.”
